Tarangire National Park – The Land of Giants

Tarangire National Park is a hidden gem in northern Tanzania, covering 2,850 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, from vast savannas and acacia woodlands to ancient baobab trees and seasonal swamps. Located just a few hours from Arusha, this park is famous for its massive elephant herds and is one of the best places in Africa to see these majestic creatures up close.

Tarangire is home to one of Tanzania’s largest elephant populations, with herds numbering over 300 individuals roaming the park. The park also hosts a rich variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest. During the dry season, Tarangire River becomes a lifeline for wildlife, attracting thousands of animals, making for spectacular game viewing. The park is also a paradise for bird lovers, with over 500 bird species, including the vibrant yellow-collared lovebird and the striking Kori bustard.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season from June to October is the best time for wildlife viewing as large numbers of animals gather around the Tarangire River. The green season from November to May offers lush landscapes, fewer tourists, and excellent birdwatching opportunities.
