Plains zebra are everywhere on the northern circuit, but the Serengeti is where they make sense. Around a quarter of a million of them move with the Great Migration, and their stripes shimmer across the plains in a way photographs never quite catch.
Family groups are led by a stallion, and each animal’s stripes are unique. In the Ngorongoro Crater they graze alongside wildebeest and gazelle in front of the lions, apparently unconcerned.
